Of course, developing the technology is only half the story and Dr Sam Whitehouse will take guests on the journey from concept to commercialisation, tackling the challenge of attracting investment and converting innovation into economic viability.

NewcastleGateshead Initiative Business Leaders Briefing

Everything we do here at NewcastleGateshead Initiative is about inspiring people to visit, and to live, learn, work and invest in NewcastleGateshead. At the very heart, it's about shifting perceptions of and attitudes towards this great place in order to support wider economic growth.

Our Business Leaders’ Briefings are an opportunity to hear from key note speakers on a range of topical issues that affect the region and its economy.

During this event we will be looking at whether the green shoots of economic recovery have reached the North East. Neil Saunders from Conlumino, one of the retail industry's most respected analysts will offer his views alongside Tom Warburton from Newcastle City Council. They will be joined on a panel by Chris Milne (incoming chief economist of the NE LEP) and Dianne Sharp (new regional director from the CBI).

Finance Update: Bank of England Economic Review

Service Network invite you to the 2014 Bank of England Economic Review.

Mauricio Armellini, the Bank of England Agent for the North East, will talk you through the Bank's Inflation Report - its quarterly economic assessment - to be published earlier in May.  Mauricio will cover the key elements of the UK economy at the time, including the Bank's forcast for future growth and inflation.  He will also cover the impact of the recession and aspects of the current international situation.

As with previous Service Network and Bank of England events there will also be an opportunity for you to have your say.  In Mauricio's role briefing the Monetary Policy Committee he has to report the regional economic story, built on contacts with a wide variety of businesses.  The event provides an opportunity to highlight the issues facing your business and ask questions about the work of the Bank.
