Delegates given a warm NewcastleGateshead welcome

29th June 2011

Categories: Convention Bureau News

The popular North East England Delegate Welcome Pack has been given a makeover creating a more user-friendly tool with increased benefits for delegates attending conferences in the ‘twin cities’.

Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau said “NewcastleGateshead has long been recognised as a place where visitors receive a first class welcome and our newly streamlined Delegate Welcome Pack aims to take that a step further, giving conference delegates a host of useful information and special offers to help them make the most of their time in NewcastleGateshead’

The popular pack provides up-to-date information about the destination and features offers and a handy map. The design of the pack has been refreshed and it is housed in a simple but stylish envelope, making it easier to carry and more environmentally friendly. The biggest change for 2011 is the inclusion of the NewcastleGateshead Discover Pass. Replacing the delegate discount card, the Discover Pass is the ultimate sightseeing pass for the area and features more than 120 offers at attractions, venues, restaurants and bars across North East England.

Today, delegates attending the national Stronger Together event at Northern Stage were amongst the first to sample the new design. While it may look different on the outside, the pack still features all the resources and tools that have continued to make it a hit with conference organisers and their delegates.

Peter Flynn, communications manager, Northern Stage, said: “The redesigned NewcastleGateshead Delegate Welcome Pack is a vast improvement on the old model and we’re pleased to be amongst the first to use them.

“I’d absolutely recommend the Packs to other conferences organisers, they’ve been well received by delegates; the inclusion of the Discover Pass is a great feature and has given attendees at Stronger Together the opportunity to explore more of the destination whilst in the city.”
The Discover Pass is usually available for visitors to purchase either online or from Tourist Information Centres for £10, but as part of the Delegate Welcome Pack, conference delegates receive one free of charge and can continue to use the Pass on return leisure visits to the destination until the end of March 2012.

Stronger Together is a national event about sharing, collaboration and partnership.  Northern Stage and Pilot Theatre, with support of Arts Council England, hosts the free event at Northern Stage, Newcastle, today, Wed 29 June 1.30pm – 6pm.  Innovatively, three national venues – Cornerhouse, Manchester, Watershed in Bristol and Lyric Hammersmith - will live stream the event to more delegates across the country. Some of the best thinkers and leaders from the cultural sector and beyond will be sharing their thoughts and provoking conversation all across the UK.

The Delegate Welcome Packs are provided free of charge for any residential conference taking place in North East England with a minimum of 50 delegates attending.
