All Fired up for charity Fundraiser

Destination marketing agency, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, has announced a year-long partnership with St. Oswald’s Hospice as the charity celebrates its 25th Anniversary.

To kick start the partnership, NewcastleGateshead Initiative is taking part in the Raise Your Game corporate challenge which aims to encourage local businesses and entrepreneurs to think of creative and innovative fundraising ideas, and as part of this, NewcastleGateshead Initiative has organised a major fundraising event - ‘You’re Fired’, based on TV show The Apprentice.

Six teams will compete in three entrepreneurial challenges and will be assessed by local business leaders. The finale will take place at Newcastle University’s Student Union from 7pm on Thursday 20 October.

Sarah Stewart, chief executive at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “For 25 years St. Oswald’s Hospice has provided fantastic, specialist care and facilities to people throughout the North East. For this reason, we are delighted to support the local charity through the Raise Your Game corporate challenge 2011.”

Real Radio DJ Lisa Shaw will host the finale, which is set to be a night filled with magic acts, canapés and excitement, as one team will hear the famous words ‘you’re hired’. There are also some amazing prizes to be won in a raffle draw; from an iPod donated by John Lewis, to a DFDS Mini Cruise to Amsterdam.

NewcastleGateshead Initiative has worked with the charity on various fundraising efforts since 2009 and this year decided to formalise the partnership as part of a move to work more closely with charities that benefit communities across Newcastle and Gateshead. 

The partnership is the first in a programme of year-long collaborations where NewcastleGateshead Initiative has pledged to use its position within the business community to help charities raise their profiles as well as funds.

Sarah commented: “In addition, we are delighted to announce that St. Oswald’s Hospice is our nominated charity of the year. The team at NewcastleGateshead Initiative has organised some great fundraising events and I am sure that ‘You’re Fired’ and its finale will be a huge success.”

Viv Williamson, Fundraising Manager at St Oswald’s, said: “We’re thrilled to be adopted by NewcastleGateshead Initiative as their Charity of the Year.  We are extremely excited to work with the team on their forthcoming fundraising activities.  We’re delighted that they’ve chosen to take part in our corporate challenge, Raise Your Game, and are really looking forward to entering a St Oswald’s team in their ‘You’re Fired’ Apprentice-style fundraiser. 

“As a North East charity we rely on the support of the local community. By choosing to support St Oswald’s NewcastleGateshead Initiative is helping us raise vital funds to continue providing specialist services, free of charge, to those who need them most.”
