An exclusive range of discounts have been launched in time for English Tourism Week, which takes place from tomorrow, Saturday 16 - Sunday 24 March.

Newcastle Falcons’ friendly mascot Flash today tucked into afternoon tea at Hotel Indigo, one of 17 businesses providing exclusive Discover Deals throughout next week, which also includes an exclusive deal for the Falcons’ upcoming match against Jersey RFC.

Part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s Discover Deals campaign, the offers are designed to help visitors make the most of the fantastic attractions, restaurants and visitor experiences on offer across NewcastleGateshead and the wider region.

Whether visitors are sports fans, foodies, film junkies or have a family to entertain, the wide range of offers means that there’s a deal to suit everyone, and provides the perfect excuse for visitors to venture out and discover something new from within the destination’s exciting tourism offer.

Sarah Stewart, chief executive of NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “Tourism is an incredibly important part of NewcastleGateshead’s economy, worth an estimated £1.26bn annually and employing more than 18,000 people. I am delighted that so many of our partners wanted to be involved in celebrating the destination’s fantastic tourism offer, by providing an exclusive Discover Deal for English Tourism Week.

“The selection of deals available really showcases the exciting variety of visitor experiences on offer here in NewcastleGateshead, and wider North East England, throughout the year. We would encourage visitors to make the most of these fantastic deals by discovering the many attractions and experiences right here on their doorstep. Discover Deals and English Tourism Week provides the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

English Tourism Week is a national week-long celebration of the many fantastic visitor experiences on offer throughout the country, driven by the nation’s vibrant and valuable tourism industry and is organised by VisitEngland.

The visitor economy is worth an estimated £1.26bn to NewcastleGateshead and Discover Deals is the destination’s free online service offering discounts and special deals redeemable at over 120 attractions, cultural venues, bars, restaurants and retail outlets across the city and wider North East region. Since launching in March 2012 18,000 deals have been downloaded by visitors and residents.

NewcastleGateshead Initiative is encouraging people to share their Discover Deal experiences by tweeting to @altweet_pet using the hash tag #discoverNG, as well as posting comments and photographs via Facebook at www.facebook.com/NewcastleGateshead.
