Tickets on sale date announced for Enchanted Parks

29th October 2014

Categories: Latest News

NewcastleGateshead Initiative and Gateshead Council's popular after-dark arts adventure in Saltwell Park, Gateshead is making a welcome return this festive season.

The ever popular Enchanted Parks event will once again breathe myth and magic into Gateshead’s beautiful Victorian park from Wednesday 10 – Sunday 14 December.

This year’s event tells the story of Estella, a young girl who lived inside Saltwell Towers. Fascinated by the stars that shone brightly above her, the turrets of Saltwell Towers became her very own observatory. Would her dreams of travelling into space become a reality? Her quest to be among the stars brings some surprises to Saltwell Park that are out of this world.

Artists from across the country have brought her story to life through magical installations, projections and soundscapes that will transform Saltwell Park for five days this December.

Gateshead Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor Peter Mole said, "Enchanted Parks is a special event in Gateshead and it is hugely popular.  It brings great artistic ideas and installations together with our communities and the result is something that is unique to Gateshead.

“This event is possible through our partnership with NewcastleGateshead Initiative and financial support from Arts Council England. It attracts visitors to Gateshead from across the region and has been a fantastic success year on year. It’s the perfect introduction to Christmas festivities.”

Carol Bell, head of culture and major events at NewcastleGateshead Initiative said: “Working very closely with Gateshead Council and NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Enchanted Parks creative producer Katy Fuller of Pinwheel has developed a unique story around this year’s event that brings to life some of the characters and tales associated with this special part of Gateshead.

“We’ve been inspired by the stars and the night sky around us. It’s going to be another really magical experience for visitors to Enchanted Parks this year.”

Enchanted Parks takes place from Wednesday 10 – Sunday 14 December. Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £1 for under 18s. Children aged 3 and under go free.

Tickets go on sale at 12noon on Monday 3 November at www.enchantedparks.com. A limited number of tickets will also be available to buy in person from NewcastleGateshead Visitor Information Centre and Saltwell Towers. We are not able to take bookings over the phone.

Tickets for Disabled Adults who need a carer companion to attend the event must also be booked at the adult rate of £7 (the carer ticket will be free of charge, but you must  email enchantedparks@ngi.org.uk to book).

Enchanted Parks is funded by Arts Council England and Gateshead Council.  It is developed and commissioned by NewcastleGateshead Initiative and Gateshead Council as part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s festivals and events programme.
